Bible Verses about Materialism

For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. For we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless. He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?
Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it.
Everyone comes naked from their mother’s womb, and as everyone comes, so they depart. They take nothing from their toil that they can carry in their hands. As he came from his mother's womb he shall go again, naked as he came, and shall take nothing for his toil that he may carry away in his hand.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver! How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”
I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me.
What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
But godliness with contentment is great gain. But godliness with contentment is great gain.
A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.
All day long he craves for more, but the righteous give without sparing. All day long he craves and craves, but the righteous gives and does not hold back.
Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common.
Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist. When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.
The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale.A rich man's wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination.

If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?
