Bible Verses about Poverty

Jesus replied, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
I know how to live with little, and I know how to live with plenty. In any and all circumstances, I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of having plenty and of being in need.I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Speak out and pronounce righteous judgments; defend the rights of the wretched and the poor.Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
Diligent labor always yields profit, but idle conversation only leads to poverty. In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
Grant justice to the weak and the orphan; defend the rights of the lowly and the poor.Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
As sorrowful, and yet we are always rejoicing; as poor, and yet we make many rich; as having nothing, and yet we possess everything. As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.
The Lord makes poor and makes rich, he humbles and he also exalts. The Lord maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.
He said to them in reply, “Anyone who has two coats must share with the person who has none, and whoever has food must do likewise.”He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render fair judgments, and show kindness and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor. Do not plot evil in your heart against one another. Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother: And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.
The wealthy man lords it over the poor, and the borrower becomes the slave of the lender. The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
Who then can separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or the sword?Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
In my anguish I cried out; the Lord heard my plea, and I was saved from all my troubles. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
Keep falsehood and lying far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but simply provide me with the food that I need.Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me.
A wealthy man pays a ransom to save his life; a poor man never has to worry about such threats. The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.
A man’s attraction is his kindness; it is far better to be poor than to be a liar. The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
Because I delivered the poor who appealed for help and the orphan who had no one to protect him. The blessing of the wretched was given to me, and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
If I give away everything to feed the poor and hand over my body to be burned, but do not have love, I achieve nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me. He has sent me to announce good news to the oppressed, to strengthen the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom to those held in captivity and release to those who have been imprisoned. The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.
Arise, O Lord! Lift up your hand, O God! Do not forget the afflicted.Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.
