When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.
Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.
A man’s pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor.One's pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
But “he who glories, let him glory in the Lord.” For not he who commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.“Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.
Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, And before honor is humility.Before destruction a man's heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.
And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.
And the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down.Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation, but the rich in his humiliation, because as a flower of the field he will pass away.Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away.
