But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine. | You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. |

Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. | Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. |
Then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment. | If this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. |
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus. | In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus. |

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. | Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. |
The Lord makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up. | The Lord sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. |
For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? | For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? |
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. | Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. |
Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving. | Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. |
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. | Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. |
When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom. | When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. |
Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men! | Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests. |
