Let your love be sincere. Loathe what is evil and hold fast to what is good. | Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good. |
So then, faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ. | So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. |

What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? | What is man, that you think of him? What is the son of man, that you care for him? |
The proud man’s heart is not upright, but the righteous man will live because of his faith. | Behold, his soul is puffed up. It is not upright in him, but the righteous will live by his faith. |
In it the righteousness of God is revealed, beginning in faith and established in faith. As it is written: “The one who is righteous will live through faith.” | For in it is revealed God’s righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, “But the righteous shall live by faith.” |
He replied, “What is impossible for men is possible for God.” | But he said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” |
However, the Lord is faithful. He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. | But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. |
Now who is going to harm you if you are eager to do what is right? | Now who will harm you if you become imitators of that which is good? |
The Lord has told you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? Only this: to do what is right, to show mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. | He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? |
Test everything, and hold fast to what is good. Avoid every form of evil. | Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good. Abstain from every form of evil. |
As for you, teach what is consistent with sound doctrine. | But say the things which fit sound doctrine. |
Since in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor lack of circumcision is worth anything. All that matters is faith expressing itself through love. | For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision amounts to anything, but faith working through love. |
Faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the conviction about things that cannot be seen. | Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen. |
The lips of the righteous utter words of kindness, but the mouth of the wicked knows only how to pervert. | The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked is perverse. |

The one who calls you is faithful, and he will accomplish this. | He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it. |
In the same way, faith by itself is dead if it does not have works. | Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself. |

Welcome anyone whose faith is weak, but do not get into arguments about doubts. | Now accept one who is weak in faith, but not for disputes over opinions. |
Pay to each person what is rightfully his—taxes to the one to whom taxes are due, tolls to the one to whom tolls are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honor to the one to whom honor is due. | Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. |
Let no foul word ever pass your lips. Say only what is useful for edification, so that your words may benefit your listeners. | Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. |
Do not be conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewal of your minds, so that you will be able to discern the will of God and to know what is good and acceptable and perfect. | Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. |
