| Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. | Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. |
| So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. | Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. | He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction. |
| He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. | He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. | So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. |

| But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. | But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. |
| Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. | Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. |

| A person finds joy in giving an apt reply— and how good is a timely word! | A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in due season, how good it is! |
| Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy. | Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, But counselors of peace have joy. |
| Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. | Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. |
