If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. | And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much! |
Whether therefore you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. | So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. |
|
Let all that you do be done in love. | And do everything with love. |
Most certainly I tell you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father. | I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. |
Depart from evil, and do good. Seek peace, and pursue it. | Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it. |
Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. | And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. |
Therefore, whatever you desire for men to do to you, you shall also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets. | Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. |
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. | For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. |
Yahweh is on my side. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? | The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me? |
I delight to do your will, my God. Yes, your law is within my heart. | I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart. |
Trust in Yahweh, and do good. Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture. | Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. |
Don’t withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it. | Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them. |
He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it. | God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful. |
To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to Yahweh than sacrifice. | The Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer him sacrifices. |
Whatever you will ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. | You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. |
In God, I praise his word. In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? | I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? |
So that with good courage we say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?” | So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” |
Yahweh’s face is against those who do evil, to cut off their memory from the earth. | But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth. |
Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Defend the fatherless. Plead for the widow. | Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. |
Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness. | Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing. |
In praying, don’t use vain repetitions as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking. | When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. |
So then let’s not sleep, as the rest do, but let’s watch and be sober. | So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. |
Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath day. | And how much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Yes, the law permits a person to do good on the Sabbath. |
Therefore, when you do merciful deeds, don’t sound a trumpet before yourself, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may get glory from men. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. | When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. |
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye? | And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? |
