Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death. | That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death. |

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. | I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. |

My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ. | That their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ. |
In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. | Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. |
For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live! | “For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord God. “Therefore turn and live!” |

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. | For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise. |

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. | Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. |
Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? | And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? |
