Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” | And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” |
And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” | While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” |

But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” | He replied, “What is impossible for mortals is possible for God.” |
Who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting. | Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to things that should not be done. |
For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. | Am I now seeking human approval, or God's approval? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ. |
For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. | Because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. |
He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. | He was despised and rejected by others; a man of suffering and acquainted with infirmity; and as one from whom others hide their faces he was despised, and we held him of no account. |
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. | There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved. |
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. | If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. |
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus. | For there is one God; there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human. |
But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” | But Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” |
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” | In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.” |
But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.” | Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible.” |
Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. | Therefore I tell you, people will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. |
Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. | Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. |
Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men! | Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors! |
A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men. | A gift opens doors; it gives access to the great. |
If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. | If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. |
Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. | Keep alert, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. |
He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ | Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again. |
Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored, And I have loved you; Therefore I will give men for you, And people for your life. | Because you are precious in my sight, and honored, and I love you, I give people in return for you, nations in exchange for your life. |
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. | For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. |
He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed. | Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm. |
Children’s children are the crown of old men, And the glory of children is their father. | Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their parents. |
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. | Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters, since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve the Lord Christ. |
