And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. | And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” |
And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. | While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” |

And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. | He replied, “What is impossible for mortals is possible for God.” |
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. | Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to things that should not be done. |
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. | Am I now seeking human approval, or God's approval? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ. |
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. | Because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. |
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. | He was despised and rejected by others; a man of suffering and acquainted with infirmity; and as one from whom others hide their faces he was despised, and we held him of no account. |
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. | There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved. |
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. | If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. |
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. | For there is one God; there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human. |
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. | Keep alert, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. |
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. | But Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” |
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. | In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.” |
And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. | Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible.” |
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. | Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors! |
Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. | Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. |
Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. | Therefore I tell you, people will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. |
A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. | A gift opens doors; it gives access to the great. |
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. | If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. |
He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. | Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again. |
Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. | Because you are precious in my sight, and honored, and I love you, I give people in return for you, nations in exchange for your life. |
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. | For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. |
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. | Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm. |
Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers. | Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their parents. |
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. | But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. |
