| Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. | For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. |

| Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. | Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. | But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. | But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life. |

| All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. | “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. |
| As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. | As servants of God, live as free people, yet do not use your freedom as a pretext for evil. |
| No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. | No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. |

| Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. | Tell slaves to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every respect; they are not to talk back, not to pilfer, but to show complete and perfect fidelity, so that in everything they may be an ornament to the doctrine of God our Savior. |

| Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. | Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. |
| For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. | For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another. |
| He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool. | Lying lips conceal hatred, and whoever utters slander is a fool. |
