- Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
- How much better to get wisdom than gold,
to get insight rather than silver! - But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.
- Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
- The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth. - Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
- God “will repay each person according to what they have done.”
- The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners. - Gracious words are a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. - There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?
- We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!
- Not to us, Lord, not to us
but to your name be the glory,
because of your love and faithfulness. - It is a trap to dedicate something rashly
and only later to consider one’s vows. - To do what is right and just
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. - He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God. - Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to act. - He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
- He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak. - Do not turn to the right or the left;
keep your foot from evil. - They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
- Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.
- I will sing to the Lord all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. - For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
- Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?
- I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.
