So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way.Then, after completing their fasting and prayer, they laid their hands on them and sent them off.

This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.The birth of Jesus Christ occurred in this way. When his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came to live together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
Now a mediator is helpful if more than one party must reach an agreement. But God, who is one, did not use a mediator when he gave his promise to Abraham.Now an intermediary is not necessary when there is only one party, and God is one.
A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted.A fool is quick to show his anger, but a prudent man ignores an insult.
The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.Where many words are spoken, sin is not absent, but whoever restrains his tongue is prudent.
No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a bowl or hides it under a bed. A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house.No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a pot or places it under a bed. Rather he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light.
For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.For you know that the testing of your faith will develop perseverance.
Never abandon a friend— either yours or your father’s. When disaster strikes, you won’t have to ask your brother for assistance. It’s better to go to a neighbor than to a brother who lives far away.Do not forsake your friend or the friend of your father, and do not run to your brother’s house when troubles befall you; far better is a friend nearby than a brother who is far away.
You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.Therefore, you have no excuse, whoever you may be, when you pass judgment on others. For in judging others you condemn yourself, since you are doing the same things.
One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples began breaking off heads of grain to eat. But the Pharisees said to Jesus, “Look, why are they breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?” Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He went into the house of God (during the days when Abiathar was high priest) and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat. He also gave some to his companions.” Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!”One day, as Jesus was passing through a field of grain on the Sabbath, his disciples began to pick some heads of grain as they walked along. The Pharisees said to him, “Behold, why are your disciples doing what is forbidden on the Sabbath?” He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? He entered the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the sacred bread that only the priests were permitted to eat, and he shared it with his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”Then he took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which will be given for you. Do this in memory of me.”
I will be your God throughout your lifetime— until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.Even when you reach old age I will still be the same. Even when your hair is gray, I will still carry you. I have made you and I will uphold you; I will carry you and save you.
And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?Why do you take note of the splinter in your brother’s eye but do not notice the wooden plank in your own eye?
Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit.Do not wear yourself out in the pursuit of wealth, and cease even to think about it.
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace when we are in need of help.
When the Gentiles sin, they will be destroyed, even though they never had God’s written law. And the Jews, who do have God’s law, will be judged by that law when they fail to obey it.All those who have sinned outside the Law will perish outside the Law, and all who sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law.
After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.For we brought nothing into this world, and we can take nothing out. If we have food and clothing, let us be content with these.
Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.One who forgives a misdeed fosters friendship, but he who divulges it separates good friends.
The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.The Lord is good, an unfailing refuge in a time of distress. He takes care of those who place their trust in him.
Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back.Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not demand the return of what is yours from the one who has taken it.
