| So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. | That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. |
| Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. | Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. |
| So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. | You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” |

| Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. | Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. |
| You shall not make anything to be with Me—gods of silver or gods of gold you shall not make for yourselves. | Remember, you must not make any idols of silver or gold to rival me. |

And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. |
