Like a city that is broken down and without walls is a man whose spirit is without restraint. | He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. |
Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.” | Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. |
He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good. | He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good. |
But if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. | But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. |
This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother. | And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. |
Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow. | Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. |

One who has my commandments and keeps them, that person is one who loves me. If a man says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn’t love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? | If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? |
Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on a rock. | Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock. |
