| And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted of the devil. | Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. | Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. |

| For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. | For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.” |
| There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. | A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter. | A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret. |

| That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him. | I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. |
| If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. | Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. |
| But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. | But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. |
| And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. | We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him. |
| When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. | When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. |
| For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth. | For the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth. |
| For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. | The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. |
| Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. | Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. |
| Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? | Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have. |
| Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. | Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. |
| But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. | But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. |
