| Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. | This water prefigured Baptism, which now saves you. It does so not by the washing away of dirt from the body but by the pledge of a good conscience given to God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. |

| There is a way which seems right to a person, But its end is the way of death. | There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end of it leads to death. |
| Since you are precious in My sight, Since you are honored and I love you, I will give other people in your place and other nations in exchange for your life. | Because in my eyes you are precious, because you are honored and I love you, I will give people in exchange for you and nations in return for your life. |
| A person has joy in an apt answer, And how delightful is a timely word! | A man is joyful when he utters apt answers, and even more satisfying is a word in season. |
| One person values one day over another, another values every day the same. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. | One person may consider one day to be more sacred than another, while another may judge all days to be alike. Let everyone be convinced in his own beliefs. |
| The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, God, You will not despise. | My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a contrite and humble heart, O God, you will not spurn. |
| So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” | Then Jesus said to those Jews who did believe in him, “If you remain faithful to my word, you will truly be my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” |
| You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by the Law; you have fallen from grace. | Those of you who seek to be justified by the Law have cut yourselves off from Christ and have fallen away from grace. |
