- Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

For His mercy endures forever. - For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
- Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
Equity and every good path. - And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
- Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.
- The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble;
And He knows those who trust in Him. - A merry heart does good, like medicine,
But a broken spirit dries the bones. - We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other.
