If you love me, obey my commandments. | If you love me, you will keep my commandments. |
So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. | Therefore, if the Son sets you free, you then will truly be free. |
|
“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” | Jesus answered, “If it is possible! All things are possible for one who has faith.” |
If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. | If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. |
If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive. Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive. | If your brother should sin, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. Even if he wrongs you seven times a day, and comes back to you seven times to say, ‘I am sorry,’ you must forgive him. |
If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. | If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you. |
My child, if your heart is wise, my own heart will rejoice! | My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad. |
Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? | Now who is going to harm you if you are eager to do what is right? |
If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back. | If your brother wrongs you, go and take up the matter with him when the two of you are alone. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. |
Then what will you think if you see the Son of Man ascend to heaven again? | What then if you were to behold the Son of Man ascend to where he was before? |
I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. | Where can I go to hide from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to the heavens, you are there; if I take my rest in the netherworld, you are also there. |
But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. | Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth: it is better for you that I depart. For if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you, whereas if I go, I will send him to you. |
If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won’t accept the church’s decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector. | If he refuses to listen to them, report it to the Church. And if he refuses to listen to the Church, treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. |
But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently. | But if we hope for what we do not yet see, then we wait for it with patience. |
The Lord will stay with you as long as you stay with him! Whenever you seek him, you will find him. But if you abandon him, he will abandon you. | The Lord is with you while you are with him. If you seek him, he will permit you to find him, but if you abandon him, he will abandon you. |
This is a trustworthy saying: If we die with him, we will also live with him. | This saying can be trusted: If we have died with him, we shall also live with him. |
If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. | If you forgive others for the wrongs they have done, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. |
Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” | Jesus replied, “Did I not tell you that if you have faith you will see the glory of God?” |
But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. | But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions. |
What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? | What then can we say in response to all this? If God is for us, who can be against us? |
So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. | In the same way, faith by itself is dead if it does not have works. |
But I will be merciful only if you stop your evil thoughts and deeds and start treating each other with justice; only if you stop exploiting foreigners, orphans, and widows; only if you stop your murdering; and only if you stop harming yourselves by worshiping idols. Then I will let you stay in this land that I gave to your ancestors to keep forever. | However, if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you are upright in your dealings with your neighbor; if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow; if you do not shed innocent blood in this place; and if you do not follow other gods and thereby cause your own destruction, then I will allow you to live in this place, in the land that I gave as a permanent gift to your fathers long ago. |
If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing. | If I give away everything to feed the poor and hand over my body to be burned, but do not have love, I achieve nothing. |
If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. | If I have the gift of prophecy and the ability to understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and have all the faith necessary to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. |
If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him! | If you know me, then you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him. You have seen him. |
