| Teach me your way, Yahweh. I will walk in your truth. Make my heart undivided to fear your name. | Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you. |
| So then let’s not sleep, as the rest do, but let’s watch and be sober. | So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. |
| My mouth shall be filled with your praise, with your honor all day long. | That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long. |
| Sing to Yahweh, for he has done excellent things! Let this be known in all the earth! | Sing to the Lord, for he has done wonderful things. Make known his praise around the world. |
| Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking lies. | Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies! |
| Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good. | Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. |
| Return, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions, so iniquity will not be your ruin. | Repent, and turn from your sins. Don’t let them destroy you! |
| I delight to do your will, my God. Yes, your law is within my heart. | I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart. |
| Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as Yahweh your God commanded you. You shall labor six days, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahweh your God, in which you shall not do any work— neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates; that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. | Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your oxen and donkeys and other livestock, and any foreigners living among you. All your male and female servants must rest as you do. |
| May he grant you your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your counsel. | May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed. |
| Let no one deceive himself. If anyone thinks that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool that he may become wise. | Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. |
| Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God. Yahweh is one. You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. | Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. |
| He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. | He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. |
| Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor’s good. | Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others. |
| “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways,” says Yahweh. | “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” |
| Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. | Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery. |
| Salvation belongs to Yahweh. May your blessing be on your people. Selah. | Victory comes from you, O Lord. May you bless your people. |
| Don’t let him who eats despise him who doesn’t eat. Don’t let him who doesn’t eat judge him who eats, for God has accepted him. | Those who feel free to eat anything must not look down on those who don’t. And those who don’t eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God has accepted them. |
| If we live by the Spirit, let’s also walk by the Spirit. | Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. |
| Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed. | Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. |
| Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!” | On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!” |
| Not to us, Yahweh, not to us, but to your name give glory, for your loving kindness, and for your truth’s sake. | Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness. |
| But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. | But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. |
| Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your waves and your billows have swept over me. | I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me. |
| He answered them, “He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise.” | John replied, “If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.” |
