And if one should fall, his companion will help him up. How pathetic is the man who is alone and falls and has no one to assist him to his feet. | For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up. |

The proud man’s heart is not upright, but the righteous man will live because of his faith. | Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. |
Behold, I am coming soon, and I will bring with me my reward to repay everyone as his deeds deserve. | And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. |
I ask that from the riches of his glory he may grant through his Spirit that you be strengthened with power in your inner being and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. | That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love. |
What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his very life? Or what can he give in exchange for his life? | For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? |
Or can a man walk on red-hot coals without scorching his feet? | Can one walk on hot coals, And his feet not be seared? |
The heart is more deceitful than any other thing, and it is also perverse. Who can uncover its secrets? I, the Lord, search the heart and probe the mind to reward all according to their conduct and as their deeds deserve. | The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. |
A fool gives free rein to his anger, but a wise man bides his time and calms it. | A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back. |
A man may plan his own course, but the Lord makes his steps secure. | A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps. |
It is honorable to avoid strife, but every fool is quarrelsome. | It is honorable for a man to stop striving, Since any fool can start a quarrel. |
If someone says, “I love God,” but at the same time hates his brother, he is a liar. For whoever does not love the brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. | If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? |
What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his very life? | For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? |
And where a single man can be overcome, two together will be able to resist. A cord with three strands is not easily broken. | Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. |
Truly, you bless the righteous, O Lord; you surround them with your goodwill as with a shield. | For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield. |
But he is to ask with faith, without doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed about by the wind. | But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. |
A man is haughty until disaster overtakes him, but humility comes before honors. | Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, And before honor is humility. |
No one can have greater love than to lay down his life for his friends. | Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. |
In it the righteousness of God is revealed, beginning in faith and established in faith. As it is written: “The one who is righteous will live through faith.” | For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” |
The future bodes well for him who is generous in helping those in need and who conducts his affairs with justice. | A good man deals graciously and lends; He will guide his affairs with discretion. |
Anyone who is victorious will be dressed like these in white robes, and I shall not blot his name from the book of life. Rather, I shall acknowledge it in the presence of my Father and his angels. | He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. |
It is rash to pledge a sacred gift, or to make a vow and then have second thoughts. | It is a snare for a man to devote rashly something as holy, And afterward to reconsider his vows. |
Blessed is the man whom God reproves. Therefore, do not reject the discipline of the Almighty. | Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. |
The words of a wise man win favor, but a fool’s tongue is his undoing. | The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious, But the lips of a fool shall swallow him up. |
Alleluia. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his precepts. | Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who delights greatly in His commandments. |
