Bible Verses about Punishment
My son, do not ignore the Lord’s discipline or refuse to accept his rebuke. For the Lord disciplines those whom he loves, just as a father chastises a beloved son. | My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction; For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights. |
I reprove and discipline all those whom I love. Therefore, be sincere in your desire to repent. | As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. |
The prudent man perceives danger and seeks shelter, while the simple continue forward and pay the penalty. | A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself; The simple pass on and are punished. |
All those who have sinned outside the Law will perish outside the Law, and all who sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law. | For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law. |
At the time that discipline is received, it always seems painful rather than pleasant, but afterward it yields a harvest of peace and uprightness to those who have been trained by it. | Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. |
When someone sins and does any of the things that the Lord has forbidden, even if he does not realize he did it, he has still committed an offense and must bear his guilt. | If a person sins, and commits any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the Lord, though he does not know it, yet he is guilty and shall bear his iniquity. |
But the one who did not know those wishes, and who acted in such a manner as to deserve a beating, will be beaten less severely. Much will be demanded of a person to whom much has been given, and even more will be asked of a person to whom more has been entrusted. | But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more. |
Repent and renounce all your transgressions. Otherwise your iniquity will prove to be your downfall. | Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin. |
In love there is no fear; indeed, perfect love casts out fear, because fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not yet achieved perfection in love. | There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. |
You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain, for the Lord will not consider blameless those who take his name in vain. | You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. |
Blessed is the man whom God reproves. Therefore, do not reject the discipline of the Almighty. | Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. |
Thus you could understand that the Lord, your God, was disciplining you, just like a father disciplines his son. | You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you. |
Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but he who mingles with fools will suffer harm. | He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed. |
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. | He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. |
No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you will all perish as they did. | I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. |
Therefore, the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from their trials and to hold the wicked for punishment until the Day of Judgment. | Then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment. |
Hence, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. | There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. |
Above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth, or use any oaths at all. Let your “Yes” mean “Yes” and your “No” mean “No.” Otherwise you may be condemned. | But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment. |
Preach the message; be persistent in doing so, whether in season or out of season; convince, reprove, and encourage, but with great patience and instruction. | Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. |
He gives a home to those who are forsaken and leads out prisoners amid chants of exultation, while rebels are forced to live in an arid land. | God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity; But the rebellious dwell in a dry land. |
The Lord watches over the stranger and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he blocks the way of the wicked. | The Lord watches over the strangers; He relieves the fatherless and widow; But the way of the wicked He turns upside down. |
Therefore, I tell you that every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. | Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. |
However, the gift is not like the transgression. For if the transgression of one man led to the death of the many, how much greater was the overflowing effect of the grace of God and the gift of the one man Jesus Christ that has abounded for the many. | But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. |
Riches will be of no avail on the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. | Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death. |
Because the sentence for committing an evil act is not carried out quickly, people’s hearts are prone to act wickedly. | Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. |
