Bible Verses about Punishment

  • My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline,
    and do not resent his rebuke,
    because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
    as a father the son he delights in.
  • Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.
  • The prudent see danger and take refuge,
    but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
  • All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.
  • No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
  • If anyone sins and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands, even though they do not know it, they are guilty and will be held responsible.
  • But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
  • Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.
  • There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
  • Blessed is the one whom God corrects;
    so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.
  • You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
  • Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.
  • Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
  • Walk with the wise and become wise,
    for a companion of fools suffers harm.
  • I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.
  • Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned.
  • Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
  • If this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.
  • Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.
  • God sets the lonely in families,
    he leads out the prisoners with singing;
    but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.
  • The Lord watches over the foreigner
    and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
    but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
  • But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!
  • And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
  • Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath,
    but righteousness delivers from death.
  • When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, people’s hearts are filled with schemes to do wrong.
