Who will render to every man according to his deeds. | He will judge everyone according to what they have done. |
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. | That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. |
|
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. | Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good. |
Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. | Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. |
Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. | Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. |
Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord. | Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. |
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. | For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” |
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. | For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. |
Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer. | Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. |
Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. | May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. |
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. | Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. |
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. | So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. |
Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. | We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. |
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. | As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” |
But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. | But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently. |
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. | Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. |
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. | No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. |
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. | For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. |
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. | When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. |
Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. | Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong. |
Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. | Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law. |
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? | What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? |
Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God. | Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory. |
Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another. | Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. |
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. | Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! |
