For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. | For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. |
Commit your way to the Lord; place your trust in him, and he will act. He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, and the justice of your cause, like the noonday. | Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this: he will make your righteousness shine out like light, and your justice as the noon day sun. |

And not only that, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we realize that suffering develops perseverance, and perseverance produces character, and character produces hope. | Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope. |
Pay to each person what is rightfully his—taxes to the one to whom taxes are due, tolls to the one to whom tolls are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honor to the one to whom honor is due. | Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. |
Brethren, if anyone is detected committing a transgression, you who are spiritual must set him right in a spirit of gentleness. Meanwhile, you should take care so that you yourselves are not tempted. | Brothers, even if a man is caught in some fault, you who are spiritual must restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, looking to yourself so that you also aren’t tempted. |
Remember this, my beloved brethren: everyone should be quick to listen but slow to speak and slow to anger. | So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. |
Jesus then said to her, “Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brethren and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ” | Jesus said to her, “Don’t hold me, for I haven’t yet ascended to my Father; but go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” |
I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance. | I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance. |
For the Son of Man has come to seek out and to save what was lost. | For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost. |
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many. | For the Son of Man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. |
The Lord is near to all who call out to him, to all who call out to him sincerely. | Yahweh is near to all those who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. |
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free. | The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed. |
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to place your trust in mortals. | It is better to take refuge in Yahweh, than to put confidence in man. |
And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do as much. | If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. |
In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served but rather to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many. | Even as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. |
If he refuses to listen to them, report it to the Church. And if he refuses to listen to the Church, treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. | If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the assembly. If he refuses to hear the assembly also, let him be to you as a Gentile or a tax collector. |
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill them. | Don’t think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I didn’t come to destroy, but to fulfill. |
Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword. | Don’t think that I came to send peace on the earth. I didn’t come to send peace, but a sword. |
There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save or to destroy. Who then are you to pass judgment on a neighbor? | Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another? |
Take heed to follow the commandments and the laws that Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave you: to love the Lord, your God, and to walk in his ways and to observe his commandments, holding fast to him and serving him with all your heart and all your soul. | Only take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, to hold fast to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. |
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me. He has sent me to announce good news to the oppressed, to strengthen the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom to those held in captivity and release to those who have been imprisoned. | The Lord Yahweh’s Spirit is on me, because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to those who are bound. |
However, to those who did accept him and who believed in his name he granted the power to become children of God. | But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name. |
Behold, we are now going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death. Then they will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and on the third day he will be raised to life. | Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and will hand him over to the Gentiles to mock, to scourge, and to crucify; and the third day he will be raised up. |
To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. | To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to Yahweh than sacrifice. |
He gives strength to the weary and new vigor to those who are powerless. | He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. |
