The English Standard Version (ESV) is an English translation of the Bible. It is a revision of the Revised Standard Version (1971). The translation follows an "essentially literal" translation philosophy.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
