But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!”I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”
As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.Sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
When goods increase, They increase who eat them; So what profit have the owners Except to see them with their eyes?As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owners except to feast their eyes on them?
Again, I saw that for all toil and every skillful work a man is envied by his neighbor. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
He answered and said to them, “He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.”John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”
The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, But the poor does not hear rebuke.A person’s riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
When they had pasture, they were filled; They were filled and their heart was exalted; Therefore they forgot Me.When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.
