Because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. | For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. |
But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. | But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. |

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. | But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. |
Then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trial, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment. | The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished. |
His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. | According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue. |
The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance. | The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. |
Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. | Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. |
Now who will harm you if you are eager to do what is good? | And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? |
Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation. | As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby. |
As servants of God, live as free people, yet do not use your freedom as a pretext for evil. | As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. |
Thus he has given us, through these things, his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust, and may become participants of the divine nature. | Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. |
While Peter was kept in prison, the church prayed fervently to God for him. | Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. |
Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more eager to confirm your call and election, for if you do this, you will never stumble. For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you. | Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. |
Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. | And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. |
For this very reason, you must make every effort to support your faith with goodness, and goodness with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness, and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love. | And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. |
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in his steps. | For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps. |
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. | Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. |
The end of all things is near; therefore be serious and discipline yourselves for the sake of your prayers. | But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. |
He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. | Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. |
Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind. | Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous. |
Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. | Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. |
You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God. | Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. |
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” | He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. |
But even if you do suffer for doing what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear, and do not be intimidated. | But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled. |
Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” | Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. |
