For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! | Once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light. |
For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” | For the entire Law can be summed up in a single commandment: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” |

But consider the joy of those corrected by God! Do not despise the discipline of the Almighty when you sin. | Blessed is the man whom God reproves. Therefore, do not reject the discipline of the Almighty. |
God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. | Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of justice, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. |
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. | Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you. |
And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. | And thus we can have confidence in him that if we ask anything that is in accordance with his will, he hears us. |
Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. | Guide me in your truth and instruct me, for you are God, my Savior, and in you I hope all the day long. |
Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. | O Lord, at daybreak you hear my voice; at daybreak I bring my petition before you and await your reply. |
In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him. | And when he had been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him. |
For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. | For everyone born of God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith. |
We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him. | And we are witnesses to these things, as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him. |
For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. | For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so too, through Christ, do we receive our consolation. |
Think about it: Just as a parent disciplines a child, the Lord your God disciplines you for your own good. | Thus you could understand that the Lord, your God, was disciplining you, just like a father disciplines his son. |
May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ. | May the Lord guide your hearts to the love of God and the steadfastness of Christ. |
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. | Therefore, now that we have been justified by faith, we are at peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. |
And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for. | And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask him, we may be sure that all we ask of him will be ours. |

In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle. | When you fix your gaze upon it, it is gone before you realize it. For it suddenly sprouts wings and flies up to the sky like an eagle. |
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. | If someone among you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without finding fault, and it will be given to him. |
Do what is good and run from evil so that you may live! Then the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies will be your helper, just as you have claimed. | Seek good and not evil, so that you may live. Then the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you as you claim he is. |
But we have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations. | We have sinned and done what is wrong, we have acted wickedly and rebelled, we have rejected your commandments and your laws. |
See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people. | Make sure that no one pays back evil for evil. Rather, always aim to achieve what is best for each other and for everyone. |
Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. | Indeed, fornication and impurity of any kind, as well as greed, should not even be mentioned among you. Such talk is not fitting for saints. |
