Against (2/2)

  • Because the sentence for committing an evil act is not carried out quickly, people’s hearts are prone to act wickedly.
  • And where a single man can be overcome,
two together will be able to resist.
A cord with three strands is not easily broken.
  • You intended to do evil to me, but God decided to make it serve a good, to fulfill that which today has come true: to keep alive a numerous people.
  • Be on guard against false prophets who come to you disguised in sheep’s clothing, but who inwardly are ravenous wolves.
  • The one who leads a blameless life
    and does what is right,
who speaks the truth from the heart
    and does not slander anyone,
who does not harm a friend
and does not scorn a neighbor.
  • The Lord will protect you against all evil;
he will watch over your life.
The Lord will watch over your coming and your going
    both now and forevermore.
  • If you forgive others for the wrongs they have done, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
  • Woe to anyone who rises up against his Maker,
or to the pot that is displeased with the potter.
Does the clay say to the one who molds it,
    “What are you doing?
    Your work makes no sense.”
  • Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not treat them harshly.
  • If anyone is rich in worldly possessions
and sees a brother in need
but refuses to open his heart,
how can the love of God abide in him?
  • And forgive us our debts
    as we forgive our debtors.
  • The Lord then said, “Very well. All that he has is in your power. However, you may not lay a hand upon him.” So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.
  • However, the Lord is faithful. He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
  • Who indeed conquers the world
    except the one who believes
that Jesus is the Son of God?
  • We have sinned and done what is wrong, we have acted wickedly and rebelled, we have rejected your commandments and your laws.
  • Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
  • They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and offered worship and service to the creature rather than to the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. That is why God abandoned them to their shameful passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural practices. Likewise, men gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameful acts with men and received in their own persons the fitting penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since these people did not see fit to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their depraved way of thinking and to all types of vile behavior.
  • Whoever believes in him is not condemned,
but whoever does not believe in him
    already stands condemned,
because he has not believed in the name
of the only-begotten Son of God.
  • Adulterers! Do you not know that love of the world results in enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a lover of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
  • When things are going well, be grateful for your blessings,
and in times of adversity consider this:
God has made both of them,
so that we cannot predict with confidence
    what the future holds.
  • If you refuse to listen to me
    and do not sincerely resolve
to give glory to my name,
    says the Lord of hosts,
I will send a curse on you,
and I will turn your blessings into a curse.
Indeed, I have already done so
because you have not heeded my warning.
  • You shall not oppress the widow or the orphan. If you mistreat them and they cry out to me for help, I will surely hear their cry, and my fury will burn and I will put you to death by the sword. Your wives will be widows and your children will be orphans.
