For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. For, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
The vine is dried up and the fig tree is withered; the pomegranate, the palm and the apple tree— all the trees of the field—are dried up. Surely the people’s joy is withered away. The vine withers, the fig tree droops. Pomegranate, palm, and apple— all the trees of the field are dried up; surely, joy withers away among the people.

One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”One sabbath he was going through the grainfields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? He entered the house of God, when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and he gave some to his companions.” Then he said to them, “The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath; so the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.”
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us—and we ought to lay down our lives for one another.
For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died.
But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”Instead, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; for it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. In everything do to others as you would have them do to you; for this is the law and the prophets.
And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of him.
You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder.
Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief. For in much wisdom is much vexation, and those who increase knowledge increase sorrow.
Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me.
And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything.
“And with you, Lord, is unfailing love”; and, “You reward everyone according to what they have done.”And steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord. For you repay to all according to their work.
So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.By faith he received power of procreation, even though he was too old—and Sarah herself was barren—because he considered him faithful who had promised.
We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.This means understanding that the law is laid down not for the innocent but for the lawless and disobedient, for the godless and sinful, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their father or mother, for murderers, fornicators, sodomites, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.
They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to things that should not be done.
