| Anyone who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty. | To him who is afflicted, kindness should be shown by his friend, Even though he forsakes the fear of the Almighty. |

| But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. | But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear. |
| A person finds joy in giving an apt reply— and how good is a timely word! | A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in due season, how good it is! |
