- Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God. - Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
- Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the Lord your God disciplines you.
- All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
- Who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
- My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline
or be weary of his reproof,
for the Lord reproves him whom he loves,
as a father the son in whom he delights. - And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
- My son, be attentive to my words;
incline your ear to my sayings.
Let them not escape from your sight;
keep them within your heart. - But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”
- My son, do not forget my teaching,
but let your heart keep my commandments,
for length of days and years of life
and peace they will add to you. - My son, keep your father's commandment,
and forsake not your mother's teaching. - No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.
- By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
and by the breath of his mouth all their host. - Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.
- In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
- Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
- For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
- Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
- As he came from his mother's womb he shall go again, naked as he came, and shall take nothing for his toil that he may carry away in his hand.
- And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
- They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, in the day when I make up my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him.
- Blessed is the one
whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered. - Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
- For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
- For the Lord is our judge;
the Lord is our lawgiver;
the Lord is our king;
he will save us.
