Did (2/3)

  • “Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying, ‘This is what the Lord of armies says: “Return now from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.” ’ But they did not listen or pay attention to Me,” declares the Lord.
  • Who, as He already existed in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself by taking the form of a bond-servant and being born in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death: death on a cross.
  • And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as He did upon us at the beginning.
  • He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we did in righteousness, but in accordance with His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.
  • Now go and learn what this means: ‘I desire compassion, rather than sacrifice,’ for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.
  • But the gracious gift is not like the offense. For if by the offense of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many.
  • So he was there with the Lord for forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
  • And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way along while picking the heads of grain. The Pharisees were saying to Him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry; how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?” Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord, even of the Sabbath.”
  • For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons and daughters by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”
  • Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you now believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”
  • No, I tell you, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
  • But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.
  • You have also given me the shield of Your salvation,
    And Your right hand upholds me;
    And Your gentleness makes me great.
    You enlarge my steps under me,
    And my feet have not slipped.
  • For they exchanged the truth of God for falsehood, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
    For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged natural relations for that which is contrary to nature, and likewise the men, too, abandoned natural relations with women and burned in their desire toward one another, males with males committing shameful acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
    And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a depraved mind, to do those things that are not proper.
  • But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God.”
  • For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things just as we are, yet without sin.
  • And the Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.
  • He was despised and abandoned by men,
    A man of great pain and familiar with sickness;
    And like one from whom people hide their faces,
    He was despised, and we had no regard for Him.
  • Therefore let’s make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same example of disobedience.
  • For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.
  • However, it was our sicknesses that He Himself bore,
    And our pains that He carried;
    Yet we ourselves assumed that He had been afflicted,
    Struck down by God, and humiliated.
  • And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup, which is poured out for you, is the new covenant in My blood.”
  • Now a mediator is not for one party only; but God is only one.
  • If only they had such a heart in them, to fear Me and keep all My commandments always, so that it would go well with them and with their sons forever!
  • Now if a person sins and does any of the things which the Lord has commanded not to be done, though he was unaware, he is still guilty and shall bear his punishment.

And if you say in your heart, ‘How will we recognize the word which the Lord has not spoken?’ When the prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, and the thing does not happen or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you are not to be afraid of him.
