Did (2/3)

  • For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.
  • One sabbath he was going through the grainfields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? He entered the house of God, when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and he gave some to his companions.” Then he said to them, “The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath; so the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.”
  • But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God.
  • “Ananias,” Peter asked, “why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, were not the proceeds at your disposal? How is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You did not lie to us but to God!”
  • Just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.
  • For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin.
  • Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
  • Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to things that should not be done.
  • And the Lord God made garments of skins for the man and for his wife, and clothed them.
  • Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
  • Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?
  • He was despised and rejected by others;
    a man of suffering and acquainted with infirmity;
    and as one from whom others hide their faces
    he was despised, and we held him of no account.
  • Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall through such disobedience as theirs.
  • Surely he has borne our infirmities
    and carried our diseases;
    yet we accounted him stricken,
    struck down by God, and afflicted.
  • I hurry and do not delay
    to keep your commandments.
  • But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died through the one man's trespass, much more surely have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for the many.
  • Now a mediator involves more than one party; but God is one.
  • He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
  • If only they had such a mind as this, to fear me and to keep all my commandments always, so that it might go well with them and with their children forever!
  • If any of you sin without knowing it, doing any of the things that by the Lord's commandments ought not to be done, you have incurred guilt, and are subject to punishment.
  • He was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.
  • You may say to yourself, “How can we recognize a word that the Lord has not spoken?” If a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord but the thing does not take place or prove true, it is a word that the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not be frightened by it.
  • Who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works but according to his own purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.
  • Since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
  • Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing at all during those days, and when they were over, he was famished.

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
