You fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. | And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. |
Whoever loves correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid. | Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid. |
|
As many as I love, I reprove and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent. | As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. |
My son, don’t despise Yahweh’s discipline, neither be weary of his correction; for whom Yahweh loves, he corrects, even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights. | My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction; For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights. |
Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. | Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. |
You shall consider in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so Yahweh your God disciplines you. | You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you. |
All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. | Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. |
But I beat my body and bring it into submission, lest by any means, after I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified. | But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. |
For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. | For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. |
A fool despises his father’s correction, but he who heeds reproof shows prudence. | A fool despises his father’s instruction, But he who receives correction is prudent. |
He is in the way of life who heeds correction, but he who forsakes reproof leads others astray. | He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, But he who refuses correction goes astray. |
But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer. | But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. |
The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge, but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction. | The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. |
Every man who strives in the games exercises self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible. | And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. |
Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. | Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. |
Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. | Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. |
