A cheerful heart is excellent medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. | A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones. |
And the world with all its enticements is passing away, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. | And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. |

However, whoever lives by the truth comes to the light so that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been done in God. | But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God. |
Everyone who hears these words of mine and acts in accordance with them will be like a wise man who constructed his house on a rock foundation. | Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. |
Flee from sexual immorality! Every other sin that a person commits is outside the body, but the fornicator sins against his own body. | Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. |
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my heavenly Father. | Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. |
Does God give you the Spirit and work mighty deeds among you because you have kept the Law or because you believed what you have heard? | Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? |
But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Your almsgiving must be done in secret. And your Father who sees everything that is done in secret will reward you. | But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. |
The one who leads a blameless life and does what is right, who speaks the truth from the heart and does not slander anyone, who does not harm a friend and does not scorn a neighbor. | He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart; He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend. |
Be doers of the word and not just hearers who only deceive themselves. | But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. |
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. | He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. |
Whoever possesses the Son possesses life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not possess life. | He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. |
Our God is in heaven; he does whatever he pleases. | But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases. |
A husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise a wife should fulfill her conjugal obligations to her husband. For a wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise, a husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. | Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. |
In the same way, faith by itself is dead if it does not have works. | Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. |
A truthful witness does not lie, but a false witness lies incessantly. | A faithful witness does not lie, But a false witness will utter lies. |
If the Lord does not build the house, those who construct it labor in vain. If the Lord does not guard the city, those who keep watch over it do so in vain. | Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. |
For the word of the Lord is true, and he is faithful in everything he does. | For the word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in truth. |
God is not human, that he should lie, or the son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act, does he promise and then not fulfill it? | God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? |
The Lord is righteous in all his ways and merciful in everything he does. | The Lord is righteous in all His ways, Gracious in all His works. |
What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his very life? | For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? |
I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. He removes every branch that does not bear fruit, and every branch that does he prunes to make it bear even more. | I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. |
Just as water reflects one’s face, so does one human heart reflect another. | As in water face reflects face, So a man’s heart reveals the man. |
And anyone who does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. | And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. |
And so does kindness, O Lord. You reward each person in accordance with his deeds. | Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; For You render to each one according to his work. |
