If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. | And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. |
There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. | He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. |

You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial. | All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. |
Those who feel free to eat anything must not look down on those who don’t. And those who don’t eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God has accepted them. | Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. |
Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. | Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. |
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. | When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. |
Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. | Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. |
An honest witness does not lie; a false witness breathes lies. | A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies. |
Remember, you must not make any idols of silver or gold to rival me. | Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold. |
Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” | But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. |
You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything. | All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. |
Can he walk on hot coals and not blister his feet? | Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? |
So Jesus told them, “My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me.” | Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. |
Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword. | Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. |
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. | But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. |
Arise, O Lord! Punish the wicked, O God! Do not ignore the helpless! | Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble. |
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. | And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. |
I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent. | I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. |
He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. | He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. |
Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! | What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. |
The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. | For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. |
You must not covet your neighbor’s house. You must not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor. | Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. |
So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. | Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. |
But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. | But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. |
Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? | He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? |
