Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, and in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong. | That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. |
For you, brothers, were called for freedom. Only don’t use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servants to one another. | For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God. | For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. |
For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth. | For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. |
Because it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer on his behalf. | For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for him. |

For I know that this will turn out to my salvation through your prayers and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ. | For I know that as you pray for me and the Spirit of Jesus Christ helps me, this will lead to my deliverance. |
Yahweh will also be a high tower for the oppressed; a high tower in times of trouble. | The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. |
Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. | Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. |
Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. | Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. |
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. | There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. |
Behold, I am Yahweh, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for me? | I am the Lord, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me? |
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. | Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. |
For Yahweh takes pleasure in his people. He crowns the humble with salvation. | For the Lord delights in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. |
However, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first, Jesus Christ might display all his patience for an example of those who were going to believe in him for eternal life. | But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life. |
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts. | Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires. |
For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s farming, God’s building. | For we are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s building. |
In praying, don’t use vain repetitions as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking. | When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. |
If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna. | So if your eye—even your good eye—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. |
For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. | For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. |
I spread out my hands to you. My soul thirsts for you, like a parched land. Selah. | I lift my hands to you in prayer. I thirst for you as parched land thirsts for rain. |
Always rejoice. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you. | Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. |
