I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. | I am confident that I will behold the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. |
For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth. | For light produces all goodness and righteousness and truth. |
|
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. | Only goodness and kindness will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever and ever. |
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. | In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. |
Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men! | How great is your goodness, O Lord, which you have stored up for those who fear you and which you bestow on those who take refuge in you, in the presence of all the people. |
For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness. | He has satisfied the thirsty and filled the hungry with good things. |
He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. | The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is filled with his kindness. |
Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, For they are from of old. Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness’ sake, O Lord. | Be mindful, O Lord, that mercy and kindness have been yours from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth or my many transgressions, but remember me in your kindness, for the sake of your goodness, O Lord. |
O my soul, you have said to the Lord, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.” | I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” |
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. | In view of all this, you should make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with piety, and piety with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love. |
And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. | Rather, be kind to one another and compassionate, and forgive one another as God has forgiven you in Christ. |
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. | Therefore, while we have the opportunity, let us labor for the good of all, but especially for those members of the household of the faith. |
The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him. | The Lord is good, an unfailing refuge in a time of distress. He takes care of those who place their trust in him. |
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. | Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good. |
The Lord is righteous in all His ways, Gracious in all His works. | The Lord is righteous in all his ways and merciful in everything he does. |
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. | Let your love be sincere. Loathe what is evil and hold fast to what is good. |
All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. | “All things are lawful,” you may say—but not all things are beneficial. All things may be lawful—but not all things are constructive. |
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. | And God is able to enrich you with an abundance of every grace, so that, with all of your needs provided for, you may be able to produce a surplus of good works. |
As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue. | His divine power has bestowed on us everything that is necessary for life and for devotion through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue. |
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. | Nor would someone light a lamp and then put it under a basket; rather, it is placed upon a lampstand so that it may afford light to all in the house. In the same way, your light must shine so that it can be seen by others; this will enable them to observe your good works and give praise to your Father in heaven. |
Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. | Put your trust in the Lord and do good, that you may dwell in the land and be secure. |
What is desired in a man is kindness, And a poor man is better than a liar. | A man’s attraction is his kindness; it is far better to be poor than to be a liar. |
Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. | Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. |
And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? | Now who is going to harm you if you are eager to do what is right? |
Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. | Shun evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. |
