Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. | So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. |
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? | What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? |
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. | The heart is devious above all else; it is perverse— who can understand it? I the Lord test the mind and search the heart, to give to all according to their ways, according to the fruit of their doings. |
So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. | So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” |
Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? | Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? |
Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. | Jesus said to him, “If you are able!—All things can be done for the one who believes.” |

If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? | Those who say, “I love God,” and hate their brothers or sisters, are liars; for those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen. |
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. | How can young people keep their way pure? By guarding it according to your word. |
And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us. | If we diligently observe this entire commandment before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us, we will be in the right. |
Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me. | Can a woman forget her nursing child, or show no compassion for the child of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me. |
And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day. | Then the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our lasting good, so as to keep us alive, as is now the case. |
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. | No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. |
And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth. | If you will only obey the Lord your God, by diligently observing all his commandments that I am commanding you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. |
Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? | Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? |
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. | For we brought nothing into the world, so that we can take nothing out of it; but if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these. |

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. | Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. |
