Call on him now while he is near. - He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless. - The grass withers and the flowers fade,

all who trust in you,

“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” - For the Lord is our judge,
our lawgiver, and our king.

I, the Lord your God.
And I say to you,
‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.’ - Learn to do good.

Help the oppressed.

Fight for the rights of widows. - And yet, O Lord, you are our Father.
We are the clay, and you are the potter.
We all are formed by your hand. - Lord, we show our trust in you by obeying your laws;
our heart’s desire is to glorify your name. - Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?”
I said, “Here I am. Send me.” - For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. - I, yes I, am the one who comforts you.
So why are you afraid of mere humans,
who wither like the grass and disappear? - I have swept away your sins like a cloud.
I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist.
Oh, return to me,
for I have paid the price to set you free. - Who has done such mighty deeds,
summoning each new generation from the beginning of time?
It is I, the Lord, the First and the Last.
I alone am he. - Yet it was our weaknesses he carried;
it was our sorrows that weighed him down.
And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God,
a punishment for his own sins! - Others were given in exchange for you.
I traded their lives for yours
because you are precious to me.
You are honored, and I love you. - In that wonderful day you will sing:
“Thank the Lord! Praise his name!
Tell the nations what he has done.
Let them know how mighty he is!” - Until at last the Spirit is poured out
on us from heaven.
Then the wilderness will become a fertile field,
and the fertile field will yield bountiful crops. - I will be your God throughout your lifetime—
until your hair is white with age.
I made you, and I will care for you.
I will carry you along and save you. - All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).

for you are my God.
You do such wonderful things!

and now you have accomplished them. - But he was pierced for our rebellion,
crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole.
He was whipped so we could be healed. - Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. - It is the same with my word.
I send it out, and it always produces fruit.
It will accomplish all I want it to,
and it will prosper everywhere I send it. - But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.

and remove the chains that bind people. - He was despised and rejected—
a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief.
We turned our backs on him and looked the other way.
He was despised, and we did not care. - The Lord says,
“I was ready to respond, but no one asked for help.
I was ready to be found, but no one was looking for me.
I said, ‘Here I am, here I am!’
to a nation that did not call on my name.” - “Come now, let’s settle this,”
says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
I will make them as white as snow.
Though they are red like crimson,
I will make them as white as wool.” - How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of the messenger who brings good news,
the good news of peace and salvation,
the news that the God of Israel reigns! - So the Lord must wait for you to come to him
so he can show you his love and compassion.
For the Lord is a faithful God.
Blessed are those who wait for his help. - Let the wicked change their ways
and banish the very thought of doing wrong.

Have you never understood?

the Creator of all the earth.

I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown.

no weapon turned against you will succeed.
You will silence every voice
raised up to accuse you.

their vindication will come from me.
I, the Lord, have spoken! - The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me,
for the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.

and to proclaim that captives will be released
and prisoners will be freed. - Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child?

Then the Lord will be your delight.
I will give you great honor
and satisfy you with the inheritance I promised to your ancestor Jacob.
I, the Lord, have spoken!
