Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment. | The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. |
When a crime is not punished quickly, people feel it is safe to do wrong. | Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. |

Our God is in the heavens, and he does as he wishes. | But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. |
For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. | Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. |
For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does. | For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth. |
He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. | He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. |
“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.” | I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. |
You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. | Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. |
Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling. | It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling. |
And how much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Yes, the law permits a person to do good on the Sabbath. | How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. |
Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection. | Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. |
The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? | The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? |
This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.” | For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. |
But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. | He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. |
There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. | There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. |
So remember this and keep it firmly in mind: The Lord is God both in heaven and on earth, and there is no other. | Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else. |
He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. | He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. |
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. | Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. |
Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. | Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. |
You know what I long for, Lord; you hear my every sigh. | Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee. |
So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. | Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. |
The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. | For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. |
There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. | Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. |
God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor? | There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? |
Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. | But godliness with contentment is great gain. |
