- Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
- And do everything with love.
- Then keep your tongue from speaking evil
and your lips from telling lies! - That is why I can never stop praising you;
I declare your glory all day long. - May he grant your heart’s desires
and make all your plans succeed. - I take joy in doing your will, my God,
for your instructions are written on my heart. - Let those who are wise understand these things.
Let those with discernment listen carefully.
The paths of the Lord are true and right,
and righteous people live by walking in them.
But in those paths sinners stumble and fall. - You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
- Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.
- But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
- Pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven. - Wait patiently for the Lord.
Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. - But I will be merciful only if you stop your evil thoughts and deeds and start treating each other with justice; only if you stop exploiting foreigners, orphans, and widows; only if you stop your murdering; and only if you stop harming yourselves by worshiping idols. Then I will let you stay in this land that I gave to your ancestors to keep forever.
- Commit your actions to the Lord,
and your plans will succeed. - Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your oxen and donkeys and other livestock, and any foreigners living among you. All your male and female servants must rest as you do.
- Show me the right path, O Lord;
point out the road for me to follow. - Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
- Let my teaching fall on you like rain;
let my speech settle like dew.
Let my words fall like rain on tender grass,
like gentle showers on young plants. - Victory comes from you, O Lord.
May you bless your people. - For the Scriptures say,
“If you want to enjoy life
and see many happy days,
keep your tongue from speaking evil
and your lips from telling lies.
Turn away from evil and do good.
Search for peace, and work to maintain it.” - Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
but to your name goes all the glory
for your unfailing love and faithfulness. - For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens.
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. - My son, obey your father’s commands,
and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. - “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” - So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.
