- Yet even so, because of your great compassion,
you did not completely destroy them,
nor did you forsake them,
for you are a gracious and merciful God. - Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
but to your name give glory
because of your kindness and faithfulness. - In the netherworld, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham, far off, and Lazarus by his side. And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me. Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in agony in these flames.’
- O Lord, hear my prayer,
incline your ear to my supplications.
In your faithfulness respond to me
with your righteousness. - Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord;
O Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cries of supplication. - Although the mountains may be shaken
and the hills may totter,
my steadfast love will not depart from you,
and my covenant of peace will never be shaken,
says the Lord who has compassion on you. - When I realized that my foot was slipping,
your kindness, O Lord, raised me up. - O Lord, let your kindness rest upon us,
for we have placed our hope in you. - For your kindness extends to the heavens;
your faithfulness, to the skies. - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercy and the God of all consolation. He consoles us in all our afflictions and thereby enables us to console others in their tribulations, offering them the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God.
- The wicked man borrows but neglects to repay,
whereas the righteous man is generous in giving. - Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness
will find life and honor too. - But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those who trust in his kindness. - And so does kindness, O Lord.
You reward each person
in accordance with his deeds. - But from everlasting to everlasting
the kindness of the Lord is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s children,
with those who keep his covenant
and diligently observe his commandments. - I will strengthen the house of Judah,
and I will save the house of Joseph.
I will bring them back
because I have taken pity on them,
and they will be
as though I had never cast them off;
for I am the Lord, their God,
and I will answer them. - The Lord will fulfill his plan for me.
Your kindness, O Lord, endures forever;
do not forsake the work of your hands. - The tax collector, however, stood some distance away and would not even raise his eyes to heaven. Rather, he kept beating his breast as he said, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner.’
- As for me, I trust in your kindness;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord
because he has been good to me. - But I will sing of your strength;
when morning dawns, I will proclaim your kindness.
For you have been my fortress,
my refuge in times of trouble. - As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
- Therefore, brethren, I implore you by the mercies of God to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice that is holy and acceptable to God—a spiritual act of worship.
- Do not let kindness and fidelity leave you;
fasten them around your neck
and inscribe them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will gain favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man. - Rend your hearts and not your garments,
and turn back to the Lord, your God.
For he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, rich in kindness,
and always prepared to relent from punishing.
Ah, Lord God, you made the heavens and the earth by your great power and your outstretched arm. Nothing is impossible for you.
