Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.

The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety.The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale.
Tainted wealth has no lasting value, but right living can save your life.Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value, but righteousness delivers from death.
I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God.Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God.

Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them. And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will fade away like a little flower in the field.Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower.
Remember, you must not make any idols of silver or gold to rival me.Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.
The rich can pay a ransom for their lives, but the poor won’t even get threatened.A person’s riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes.
