| Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. | So we must not fall asleep as the others do, but we must stay alert and sober. |
| A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. | I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you should also love one another. |
| When a man has taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war or be charged with any business; he shall be free at home one year, and bring happiness to his wife whom he has taken. | If a man has recently been married, he is not to go off to battle nor have any other duty laid on him.
