- The fear of man proves to be a snare,
but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe. - A man’s steps are established by Yahweh.
He delights in his way. - A man’s heart plans his course,
but Yahweh directs his steps. - He who walks blamelessly walks surely,
but he who perverts his ways will be found out. - In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep,
for you alone, Yahweh, make me live in safety. - Trust in Yahweh, and do good.
Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture. - He who guards his mouth guards his soul.
One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. - A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
- But you, when you pray, enter into your inner room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
- For the customs of the peoples are vanity;
for one cuts a tree out of the forest,
the work of the hands of the workman with the ax.
They deck it with silver and with gold.
They fasten it with nails and with hammers,
so that it can’t move.
They are like a palm tree, of turned work,
and don’t speak.
They must be carried,
because they can’t move.
Don’t be afraid of them;
for they can’t do evil,
neither is it in them to do good. - But when you do merciful deeds, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand does, so that your merciful deeds may be in secret, then your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
- But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.
- Surely the Lord Yahweh will do nothing,
unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets. - He reveals the deep and secret things.
He knows what is in the darkness,
and the light dwells with him. - One who brings gossip betrays a confidence,
but one who is of a trustworthy spirit is one who keeps a secret. - The second is like this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.
- “Can anyone hide himself in secret places
so that I can’t see him?” says Yahweh.
“Don’t I fill heaven and earth?” says Yahweh. - So Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
- He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of Yahweh, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
my God, in whom I trust.” - Have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.
- I know how to be humbled, and I also know how to abound. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need.
- Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over these, the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with him one thousand years.
A fool despises his father’s correction,
but he who heeds reproof shows prudence.
