O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! | Oh, that they would have fear of me in their hearts and they would observe all of my commandments always. Then things would go well with them and their children forever. |
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. | And every tongue should proclaim to the glory of God the Father: Jesus Christ is Lord. |
|
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. | For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may attain eternal life. |
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. | This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the Antichrist, about whose coming you have been told, and that it is already in the world. |
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. | For I handed on to you as of primary importance what I received: that Christ died for our sins, in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried and that he was raised to life on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. |
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. | Teach us to comprehend how few our days are so that our hearts may be filled with wisdom. |
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. | You did not choose me. Rather, I chose you. And I appointed you to go out and bear fruit, fruit that will remain, so that the Father may give you whatever you ask him in my name. |
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. | I treasure your word in my heart for fear that I may sin against you. |
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. | Beloved, I pray that everything is going well with you and that your bodily health is equal to that of your soul. |
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. | The Spirit himself bears witness with our Spirit that we are children of God. |
And in that day shall ye say, Praise the Lord, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted. | And you will say on that day: Give thanks to the Lord, invoke his name; make known his deeds among the nations; proclaim that his name is exalted. |
For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. | For from the beginning you have heard the message that we should love one another. |
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. | As for you, my child, take strength from the grace that is in Christ Jesus. |
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. | You believe that there is one God. You do well to assert that. But even the demons believe and tremble. |
Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. | Let us then make every effort to enter into that rest, so that no one may fall by following that example of refusing to believe. |
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. | What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. |
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. | We also know that the Son of God has come and given us understanding so that we can know the one who is true. And we are in the one who is true, since we are in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. |
I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. | I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I do ask you to protect them from the evil one. |
And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall confess that he hath sinned in that thing. | Therefore, when someone is guilty of any one of these things, he shall confess the sin he has committed. |
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love. | I ask that from the riches of his glory he may grant through his Spirit that you be strengthened with power in your inner being and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. |
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. | Repent, therefore, and be converted so that your sins may be wiped away. |
Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. | God abides in anyone who acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, and that person abides in God. |
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. | God’s love was revealed to us in this way: God sent his only-begotten Son into the world so that we might have life through him. |
Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. | This is how we can be certain that we abide in him and that he abides in us: he has given us a share in his Spirit. |
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. | Let no one deceive you in any way. That Day cannot come before the final rebellion occurs and the lawless one is revealed, the son of destruction. He is the adversary who sets himself in opposition to, and exalts himself above, every so-called god or object of worship, and who even seats himself in the temple of God, declaring himself to be God. |
