“Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked?” says the Lord Yahweh, “and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?”Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?
Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it.For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.
I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice, and to do good as long as they live. Also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God.I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the middle of them.For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.
A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control.Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.
Rest in Yahweh, and wait patiently for him. Don’t fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen.Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die.Whoever keeps commandments keeps their life, but whoever shows contempt for their ways will die.
A fool shows his annoyance the same day, but one who overlooks an insult is prudent.Fools show their annoyance at once, but the prudent overlook an insult.
But if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Because the midwives feared God, he gave them families.And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.

A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps.In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.
Don’t envy the man of violence. Choose none of his ways. For the perverse is an abomination to Yahweh, but his friendship is with the upright.Do not envy the violent or choose any of their ways. For the Lord detests the perverse but takes the upright into his confidence.
The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but a fool is swallowed by his own lips.Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious, but fools are consumed by their own lips.
For in much wisdom is much grief; and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.
A fool has no delight in understanding, but only in revealing his own opinion.Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.
The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats.A person’s riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes.
Most certainly I tell you, a servant is not greater than his lord, neither is one who is sent greater than he who sent him.Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
Many will purify themselves, and make themselves white, and be refined, but the wicked will do wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.
Who are you who judge another’s servant? To his own lord he stands or falls. Yes, he will be made to stand, for God has power to make him stand.Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.
For, “He who would love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good. Let him seek peace and pursue it.”For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.”
